About Joy
Joy was born on Jeju, raised in northern Seoul and cast at SM Entertainment's Seoul global audition in 2012; after two years of training a vocal coach gave her the stage name Joy, and she was unveiled as Red Velvet's fourth member on July 29, 2014. She built a parallel career in acting from 2017, leading The Liar and His Lover, Tempted, The One and Only and Once Upon a Small Town, and released the remake album Hello in 2021. In 2026 she wrote the words to two songs on Velvet Summer, including the single “Surfin' Boy”.
